Oracle invokes 'force majeure' clause to avoid controversial data center project

PANews reported on September 24 that Oracle (ORCL.N) is trying to avoid the huge expenses incurred by building a large data center project in New Mexico, according to Bloomberg. This undoubtedly adds new variables to this project that has been plagued by opposition and regulatory obstacles.

Oracle has sent a notice to the project's developer, a unit of Blue Owl Capital, invoking a force majeure clause, according to people familiar with the matter. People familiar with the matter said Oracle is not trying to exit the project as an anchor tenant, but is hoping to defer related payments if the Project Jupiter data center project encounters delays and fails to come online as planned in 2028.
