PANews, October 20 news: Fu Peng posted on X platform that heavyweight stocks, supported by passive funds and concentrated holdings, are maintaining high levels, making the broad market index appear stable, but most individual stocks are undergoing deeper technical drawdowns. He pointed out that when the drawdown gap between the S&P 500 equal-weight index and the market-cap-weighted index widens to the historical extreme range of 4%-6%, it often means market breadth is approaching its limit; at this point, even a small catch-down decline by the heavyweight giants could trigger a sharp spike in the VIX volatility index. Fu Peng believes that this drawdown gap has recently reached a critical point, and the internal imbalance in the market is being corrected as volatility rises.
Fu Peng: The internal pullback divergence in U.S. stocks has reached a critical point, and a catch-down in heavyweight stocks may trigger an upward spike in volatility.
