Vitalik: Multiple signature schemes can be supported through 8288 and STARK aggregation, without the need to continuously add new precompile contracts.

PANews October 19 news: Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated on the X platform that he believes the ideal path to support various cryptographic schemes is through 8288: users adopt the required signature scheme locally, then generate a STARK proof, and incorporate it into on-chain verification through a STARK aggregation mechanism, without the need to upload the raw signature data on-chain as calldata.

He believes that this path can free Ethereum from continuously adding new precompile contracts for different cryptographic algorithms—that is, functions natively supported by the protocol for efficiently executing specific computations. This statement responds to discussions about whether account and wallet adoption of lattice-based cryptography can be supported through precompile contracts in the future.
