Irish police X account suspected of being hacked to promote crypto phishing content.

PANews October 15 news: Multiple official X accounts under the Irish national police (An Garda Síochána) are suspected of having been hijacked by hackers and used for cryptocurrency promotion. The affected accounts include the official traffic safety account GardaTraffic, which has about 600,000 followers, and the comprehensive government affairs account GardaInfo, which has nearly 300,000 followers.

The attack occurred on Wednesday evening. The hackers not only removed the accounts' official police badge emblems, but also changed the account profile location to Amsterdam, Netherlands, and intensively posted multiple tweets promoting crypto assets, including phishing content that lured users to claim XRP allocations. At present, some of the violating tweets have been marked with warnings by the platform. The Irish police responded that they have noticed the security incident and will issue an official investigation statement later.
