Anthropic seeks rehearing in appeal over Pentagon "supply chain risk" designation

PANews October 14 news, according to CNBC, Anthropic filed a petition on October 13 U.S. Eastern Time with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, requesting a rehearing of its appeal concerning the Pentagon's "supply chain risk" designation. In March of this year, the U.S. Department of Defense designated Anthropic as a supply chain risk, barring defense contractors from using its technology in cooperation with the Department of Defense; in September, a panel of the court upheld the designation by a 2-to-1 vote. Anthropic's lawyers said in the filing that the company was blacklisted because it refused to allow its models to be used for mass surveillance of U.S. citizens or lethal autonomous weapons, and pointed out that the court ignored direct evidence that the designation was retaliation for Anthropic's public stance on AI safety.
