Fed's Williams: Possibly one more rate hike this year, currently sees no need to hike in 2027

PANews October 14 news, according to Bloomberg, New York Fed President John Williams said in an exclusive interview with Bloomberg that he still believes one more rate hike this year may be appropriate, but there is currently no reason to think further rate hikes will be needed in 2027. Williams expects inflation to slow markedly next year and approach the 2% target as the shocks from tariffs and energy prices fade, which should help offset the price pressures brought by AI infrastructure construction; the U.S. economy as a whole is not overheating, and the labor market is not generating inflationary pressure. After the remarks, U.S. Treasury yields edged lower. The market currently expects the Fed to raise rates in December and to raise rates twice more in 2027. U.S. September CPI data will be released on October 14, and the Fed will hold its monetary policy meeting from October 27 to 28.
