Coinbase joins London joint anti-fraud operation, assisting in freezing assets linked to a West African scam network.

PANews October 13 news: In an international joint anti-fraud operation held in London from October 6 to 9, Coinbase partnered with the UK National Crime Agency (NCA), the U.S. Department of Justice Scam Center Strike Force, and the Tech Against Scams coalition to jointly combat a transnational fraud network operating in West Africa. Coinbase's global intelligence team participated in tracking illicit fund flows, assisting in freezing assets involved in the cases, and sharing investigative leads in real time.

The related fraud methods include fake cryptocurrency investments, impersonating law enforcement officers, and coercing victims into transferring funds through staged video call arrest scenarios. Coinbase stated that as crackdowns on scam compounds in Southeast Asia continue to intensify, some criminal networks are gradually shifting to regions such as West Africa, and the company will continue to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the future to track cross-border fraud funds.
