Chicago Fed President Goolsbee warns that the AI boom could push up U.S. inflation and may affect the path of rate cuts.

PANews October 13 news, Chicago Fed President Goolsbee said that the price pressures brought by the artificial intelligence (AI) investment boom are spreading from the data center sector to the broader U.S. economy and may exacerbate inflation risks.

Goolsbee pointed out that the surge in demand for electricity, construction, land, and equipment for AI infrastructure construction is driving up costs across multiple industries. He warned that if inflationary pressures persist, the Federal Reserve may need to maintain tighter monetary policy for a longer period, or even raise interest rates further.

"I am increasingly concerned that this is just demand overheating in the traditional sense," Goolsbee said.
