SMBC Nikko Securities joins forces with Uniswap and others to develop compliant DeFi gateway

According to ChainCatcher news, SMBC Nikko Securities announced on October 2 that it has signed a memorandum of cooperation on the development of the decentralized finance (DeFi) platform "DeFi Gateway" for Japanese investors. Participants include blockchain development companies Nethermind, Uniswap Labs, the Nyx Foundation, and Coinbase Technologies, which operates the Ethereum Layer 2 network Base. The project will develop a liquidity supply agreement and its own liquidity pool, and comply with Japanese laws and regulations. The parties plan to complete the development in mid-2027.

The cooperation mainly focuses on three developments: the first is to create an "agent-based vault" and an intuitive user interface using verifiable and reproducible AI; the second is to use the Hooks function of Uniswap v4 to build a compliant liquidity pool public framework with built-in anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CFT) and investor protection mechanisms; the third is to develop asset management strategies covering digital assets such as stablecoins and real-world assets (RWA).

The project is co-led by SMBC Nikko Securities and Nethermind. SMBC Nikko Securities leads communications with regulators and provides compliance, risk model and portfolio management experience; Nethermind is responsible for technology design and development, including AI strategy and integration, smart contract security, and automated market making and Uniswap v4 Hooks strategies.
