Multinational law enforcement agencies launched Operation KillSwitch on September 30, resulting in the arrest of three suspects and searches of eight locations in Spain, Greece, Romania and the United Kingdom. The investigation involved approximately 1,000 suspected cyberattacks worldwide, with approximately 500 confirmed successful. He has previously been charged with unauthorized access to computers, damaging protected computers and sending extortion threats. He has not yet been convicted.
