PANews October 19 news: Former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpelès posted on X stating that the official Ledger support account previously claimed its Secure Element chip can detect physical tampering and refuse to pass the Genuine Check verification when "additional hardware" attempts to intercept signals. However, Ledger's own technical documentation explicitly states that if the original Secure Element is intact, Genuine Check cannot detect unauthorized physical hardware modifications such as spy implants—the two are directly contradictory. Karpelès pointed out that less than two months later, reports had already emerged of over $90 million being stolen due to such "additional hardware" intercepting signals, and that Ledger had already published physical photos of mass-produced spy implant PCBs in multiple devices in a March 2026 Ledger Academy article. On this basis, he questioned whether this constitutes false advertising under French law.
