PANews reported on September 25 that a measure of the volatility of U.S. Treasury bonds is experiencing its largest increase in more than a year after bond yields rose to multi-decade highs, lifting the market out of its recent downturn.
ICE Bank of America's (ICE BofA) MOVE index, a measure of bond market volatility, rose by about 29.69% this week, the largest increase since the so-called "Liberation Day" in April last year. At that time, Trump’s large-scale import tariff measures triggered shocks in global markets. The index has now risen to its highest level since March this year, when the war with Iran just broke out. The market has been volatile and many traders have chosen to wait and see. For example, Adam Kurpiel, head of rates strategy at Societe Generale, said his team currently has a neutral view on U.S. rates and is waiting for "volatility to decline before entering into trades."
