Nasdaq plans to set a $5 million delisting threshold, U.S. domestic companies question the "one-size-fits-all" approach.

PANews October 15 news, according to Bloomberg, Nasdaq plans to introduce new rules under which listed companies whose market capitalization remains below $5 million for 30 consecutive days will face immediate suspension and delisting procedures, aiming to crack down on manipulation such as "pump-and-dump" in the overseas small-cap stock market. The proposal has drawn opposition from small U.S. domestic businesses, which are concerned that the new rules could also sweep in companies that are operating normally but whose stock prices are highly volatile, affecting financing and business development. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) suspended progress on the proposal last month and decided to seek further public comment. Currently, more than 190 Nasdaq-listed companies have a market capitalization of no more than $5 million, and nearly half of them are headquartered in the United States.
