Citadel Securities: Retail investors net bought $9.1 billion of US stocks last week, with AI chip stocks becoming a major investment focus.

PANews October 14 news, according to Bloomberg, although concerns about an AI bubble remain, the Nasdaq 100 Index and the S&P 500 Index both hit record highs last week. Scott Rubner, head of equity and derivatives strategy at Citadel Securities, disclosed that retail investors net bought $9.1 billion of U.S. stocks on the platform last week, the largest weekly net buying scale in the past 15 weeks, with funds mainly flowing into AI-related stocks and ETFs.

Among them, retail investors net bought $2.6 billion of semiconductor stocks last week, the third-highest weekly net buying amount in the past year, and driving October net buying of semiconductor stocks toward what may be a record monthly high since the platform began keeping records. In addition, retail investors also bought about $2.4 billion of AI infrastructure-related stocks.

Analysis points out that the rebound in retail buying strength mainly reflects increased bullish confidence in market direction, rather than a rise in overall trading activity. Last week, retail buying amounts exceeded selling amounts by 2.7%, with the directional bias indicator at about the 90th percentile over the past year, while overall trading activity was only at the 42nd percentile.
